Plutarch · c. AD 46-after 119
Plutarch's Life of Lucullus covers the Roman general Lucius Licinius Lucullus, a supporter of Sulla, who commanded in Asia against Mithridates and Tigranes. It follows him from his early service under Sulla and his consulship through his victories over Mithridates at Cyzicus and Cabira and over Tigranes at Tigranocerta, the mutiny of his army and his replacement by Pompey, to his later life of luxury, learning and withdrawal from politics. It is paired with the Life of Cimon, and the two are followed by a comparison.
