Strabo of Amaseia in Pontus was a Greek geographer and historian of the age of Augustus and Tiberius. His Geography, in seventeen books, describes the known world region by region, and for Greece, Asia Minor and southern Italy it records the myths, founders and cults attached to each city, often quoting Homer and arguing about where the places of the epics really were.
