late 1st century BC
Conon was a Greek mythographer of the time of Augustus or a little earlier, who dedicated a work of fifty short narrations to Archelaus Philopator, a king of the Augustan age. Little else is known of him. His book is lost; we have it only in the summary that the patriarch Photius made of it in the ninth century (Bibliotheca, codex 186), where the stories are retold in Photius' own condensed prose. Most deal with the foundation of cities and cults and with love and metamorphosis.
