2nd or 3rd century AD
Antoninus Liberalis was a Greek mythographer, probably of the second or third century AD, of whom nothing is known beyond his name. His Collection of Metamorphoses retells forty-one stories of transformation into birds, animals, stones, trees and springs, drawn mostly from the lost Hellenistic poems of Nicander and Boeus. A single manuscript preserves it, and many of its stories are known from no other source.
