Herodotus

Ἡρόδοτος

5th century BC

Herodotus of Halicarnassus (about 484-425 BC), called the father of history, wrote the Histories, an inquiry into the causes and events of the wars between the Greeks and the Persians. Around that story he gathered what he had heard and seen on his travels in Egypt, the Near East, Scythia and the Greek world: the customs of peoples, local traditions, oracles, and many of the myths and legends that Greeks told about their own past and that of their neighbours.
