3rd century BC
Apollonius of Alexandria, called the Rhodian after the island where he lived for a time, was a poet and scholar of the third century BC who is said to have headed the Library of Alexandria. His Argonautica is the only complete Greek epic on the voyage of Jason and the Argonauts, and the main literary source for the story of Jason and Medea.
