Asteria

Asteria was a name given to a number of different beings in Greek mythology.

Asteria's Family

As a deity, however, the name refers to a Titan goddess, daughter of the Titans Coeus and Phoebe and sister of Leto. She was married to the Titan Perses, and had a daughter, Hecate.

Asteria's Role

Asteria was the goddess of nocturnal oracles and shooting stars. Zeus pursued her, but Asteria instead turned into a quail and fell into the Aegean to escape.

Asteria transforms to an island

As a result, she transformed into Ortygia, the quail island, which was later linked to the island of Delos.
