Undine Picture

Undine is named after the water spirit in German mythology who fell in love with a knight - Sir Lawrence - and they were married. When they exchanged vows, Lawrence said, "My every waking breath shall be my pledge of love and faithfulness to you." A year after their marriage Undine gave birth to his child causing her to loose her gift of immortality. From that moment on she began to age. As Undine’s physical attractiveness diminished, Lawrence lost interest in his wife.
One afternoon Undine was walking near the stables when she heard the familiar snoring of her husband. When she entered the stable, however, she saw Lawrence lying in the arms of another woman. Undine pointed her finger at him, which he felt as a kick, waking up with a start. Undine uttered a curse: "You swore faithfulness to me with every waking breath, and I accepted your oath. So be it. As long as you are awake, you shall have your breath, but should you ever fall asleep, then that breath will be taken from you and you will die!"

I guess the moral of the story is don't be unfaithful to magical creatures. This little dragon isn't likely to curse you but maybe you should make sure not to betray her just in case.

Undine, like most dragons, enjoys collecting shiny things to decorate her body and wings. She has a moonstone bead in her wing. When I was very little I read a book about a little dragon like Undine. When the little dragon was put next to some moonstones he ate them and turned into a a real dragon who flew away to that place far away where dragons live. So make sure you watch out for those moonstones going missing, you don't want a giant fire-breathing dragon on your hands!

She is just 1.5 inches heigh and 1.25 inches wide. She has a hole between her wings for threading things through so she would make a beautiful focal bead, keyring, phone charm or other hanging thingies. She could also have a pin attached to her back so you can wear her on your jacket or other pinable item.

N.B. The colours are much richer than they look in the photograph. Obviously colours on your monitor may vary.
