egret woman Picture

i've always loved mythologies and cultures. and if i could not find one, i made one up. this is the Egret Woman, from a tribe of swamp-dwelling people somewhere in my mind. Since they dwell in swamps, they revere the egret and the heron as their protective animal gods, those from whom they learned to fish with spears. Every year they have a celebration for their animal goddess, and a girl, usually the local witch's apprentice, will perform a silent dance in honour of the graceful, silent egret. She is this year's Egret Woman. Later she will learn the secrets of the forest and the swamp from her witch-teacher, and pass the egret-goddess's wisdom on to the next generation of her people. But for now, just for this moment, she is simply the silent dancer of the swamps.
