Persephone Picture

This painting is from my final major project for the foundation course that i have recently finished. My work is about creating a visual dialogue between past and contemporary art, reusing traditional paintings and making them relevant through the use of transfers from contemporary art and design magazines as well as fashion magazines to create unusual and evocative backgrounds for my paintings. The ghostly transfers symbolise my belief that some contemporary art can be void of any real substance and technical ability, and whereas contemporary art regards tradition as being old fashioned and to some extent uninteresting, I wanted to combine the ideals of both traditional technique and contemporary concept in my paintings.
