Persephone Picture

This was meant to be a kind of modern version of a renaissance painting of Demetre's daughter, Persephone, holding a pomegranate. First shot from the shoot.

In the myth this shoot was based around, Hades falls in love with the beautiful Persephone and takes her into the Underworld to be his queen, where tricks her into eating several pomegranate seeds (the number varies according to the telling) which binds her to spending a season with him every year. Her mother Demetre, the goddess of the earth and all natural things, becomes so distraught every time her daughter disappears that everything on earth dies until she returns. This is how the Greeks explained the seasons, specifically the onset of winter.

Natural lighting.
