Chaos is the original state of existence from which the first gods appeared in Greek Mythology. It is made from a mixture of the four elements earth, air, fire and water. Chaos was the first thing to exist and the “womb” from which everything emerged. The first deity to be born from Chaos was Gaia.

I chose to represent Chaos as a woman, instead of a “lifeless lump, of un-fashioned and unframed void,” for a few reason, Chaos gave birth to creation just as a woman bring life into this world and second throughout history woman have always been depicted as chaotic and manipulative creatures. Eve convinced Adam to take that damn apple, Pandora opened the box out of curiosity and released the “7” evils of man kind (sorry I don’t consider hope evil) greed, vanity, slander, lying, envy, pining and hope.

Even though I am a woman myself, I do find humor in these depictions and I have learned first hand that woman can indeed be manipulative individuals not saying men can’t but us ladies have it down to a fine art.

Plus I thought Chaos would look cooler with longer hair hehehe…

This was done in illustrator, took me about 10 hours and a lot of different references/inspiration. Please feel free to comment but refrain from constructive criticism, I worked really hard on this piece and don’t want to see it cut down because I am very proud of how it turned out.

PS this piece looks awesome tiled as a desktop wallpaper. >.>
