Artie VS. Skroll Picture

A revisit to an old drawing I did: [link]

And if you want to see a full-body sketch of this character, look here: [link]

This is Skroll, Artie's nemesis and the main antagonist of my "Dawn Over Dusk" idea.

He is a brutal, savage beast, and leader of the DUSK army, who often ploughs at an enemy with everything he's got in brute force, but he can also show some signs of tactical knowledge.

He wears a large cape that is drooped over his right arm, mainly to control its power. His right arm can actually shapeshift, and he uses it to turn into swords, maces or other forms of blunt instruments, but he doesn't immediately use it unless the situation calls for it.

He is also made out of DUSK energy making him an official creature of the darkness and one to be feared.

He leads the DUSK revolution through Artie's homeworld in order to reclaim something. What that is I don't think I'll say just yet. I think I'll save that story for another time.

As you can see, there is a major design difference between the old and new versions of this character. The problem I had with the old version was that he lacked personality, at least from a design point of view. He just looked like a brainless beast.

Hopefully here it's much different, and now he shows some form of intelligence from his formal armour wear, while still retaining his savage greedy look. I still think he could use some work, but I'll stick with it for now.

Ironically enough, there's a character in Norse mythology that is much like Skroll in every way. And I swear I didn't know about him until after I designed the old version of Skroll.

His name is Skoll and he is a giant wolf creature that's hell-bent on chasing the chariot that carried the Sun (because in Norse mythology, it was believed the Sun wasn't on orbital axis, but was carried along on a chariot) in order to devour it. He has a brother named Hati that likewise chases the chariot that carries the Moon in order to devour that. And his father is the wolf-god Fenrir, one of Loki's children.

Originally, I called my character Goliath in reference to the famous biblical myth of David and Goliath, but after hearing about this, I just had to rename him to Skoll because of the sheer similarities between them. Although to make it a little different, I put an 'r' in there, making it SKROLL.
