Lord of Nightmares Picture

Why have I not uploaded this yet-

Anyways, the last picture I drew of the Wizeman left me extremely dissatisfied. I've been meaning to get a 'true' piece done in which he is closer to what I see in my imagination. While this is much, and I mean much closer to what I see, there are still a few details I never added in because they would either upset the balance of the image or just plain wouldn't work with the look I was going for. Some examples of this is how I always pictured the Wizeman with over one set of arms (very much like many of the Indian gods), and how he looks less like a jester or human, and more like an abstract deity. (although, I suppose that's not a bad thing since he sorta is)

However, I'd be lying if I said I didn't like how it turned out.

In fact, this is probably the most proud I've been of a piece in a while. It's the first time I've actually taken up all the space on a sheet of paper for a drawing instead of doodling a character floating in space. I was also given a chance to experiment with line thickness and using a mix between pencil lines and ink. All in all, I think I did a good job.

One thing I've tried to stay true to in my 'Nightmaren' designs of this character was his original design. And by that I obviously mean the designs that were made for him in the second game even though they're not the original SHUT UP ;~;
on another note when I googled 'Wizeman the Wicked' to get that image my other piece of him was one of the first ones that came up.
Excuse me while I squee my face off eeeeeeee-

One of the first things I noticed was the pattern on the long strip of red cloth down the middle. At first glance, it's a meaningless symbol that they've repeated over and over, but after looking at it for a while I noticed that it looks a hellova lot like a stylized version of the ideya. At first I found this weird, but then I realized that his civilization is literally built on harnessing this resource, so it made sense that it would be important enough to make it on to his royal robes. Since then, I have come up with a number of 'icons' representing Nightmare and the Wizeman, the stylized ideya being used in most of them. My favorite of these is by FAR would be the eye with the stylized ideya for an iris, of which is shown directly above his head here. The eye has also come to represent the Wizeman in my mind, since my headcannon for Nightmaren civilization involved the eyes seen on his hands also being put in to many pieces of furniture and walls of buildings to make sure no one is up to anything. In mythology, eyes are also said to represent hooooooooly crap I've put way to much thought in to this video game character.

Okay, so I'm going to shut up with all this weird deep hidden meanings stuff and go back to adding keywords and clicking submit mmmkay? mmmkay.

and now we wait for Tia to comment with a glomp.
