Cupid and Psyche Picture

Something for Valentine's Day.

I apologize for the bad quality. I have to use a camera, not a scanner, for my art now, and furthermore these were done entirely in ballpoint pen, while I was supposed to be paying attention in class.

But I like them both, and thought them worth submitting.

They were drawn about three weeks apart, (the one on the left being first, while I was feeling extremely Mucha-ish). For some reason I was compelled to draw Psyche, and today i followed it up with Cupid. I think Cupid and Psyche is one of the greatest love stories of all time, and I love how artists have illustrated it over the years. So I added my version.

I like the version of Psyche I've come up with - the sharp face, long hair, and symmetrical flowers (although the left-hand picture is more animesque than I would like.) I like how I framed each of these - the Mucha background, or Cupid's wings. Also, I chose a tulip because I read an article disparaging the use of red roses as the most hackneyed, cliched romantic flower ever. So I chose a tulip, instead.

This is for Valentine's Day. Have a lovely one!
