Marriage of Persephone Picture

oil on canvas, 20X20"

I think it is an interesting piece to meditate on. . .has so many projective meanings to it.. . Persephone was wedded to the God of the underworld, Hades. Her mother, Demeter, was distraught and bargained with Hades to have her part of the time. The rest of the time, she would spend with her husband in the underworld. She was to spend 6 months with her husband which causes the seasons of fall and winter. She returned for 6 months, and the world became alive in spring and summer.

This is a very textured piece. I used impasto and a pallette knife. Also, there is copper paint in the flowers and on the hat, but the photo did not pick up the details very well, unfortunately. . . .
