Mokoi Picture

Mokoi are one of the many creature types that can be encountered, and potentially recruited as allies, in Atlus' 1997 Debiru Samana- Souru Hakka-zu (Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers) Sega Saturn roleplaying video game [said title was also ported, with slight enhancements, to the Sony Playstation in 1999, but, like the original version, it's only available in Japan.] In Soul Hackers, Mokoi conform to the Neutral-Chaos alignment, a life philosophy that advocates confusion and disorder, but without any good or evil intent, or, to put it more simply, anarchy in its purest form. These emerald characters are further classified as members of the Yama (Japanese for "night demon/spirit") Clan, a group that consists of nocturnal predatory monsters and entities that are associated with dreams.

Mokoi (literally "evil ghost") are wicked forest spirits in the mythology of the Murngin Aborigines of Northern Australia. The Murngin believe that human deaths are seldom natural; most accidents and illnesses are directly attributed to the malicious activities of these creatures. Mokoi are often invoked by evil sorcerers to kill their enemies and wreak havoc in the world. However, turnabout is fair play, as good shamen will also summon Mokoi to strike down practitioners of black magic (apparently, as long as they get to kill something, Mokoi aren't too picky about who's giving them their marching orders.) These phantoms are also known to kidnap, and devour, children at night.
