Priestess of Iuppiter Picture

Betcha didn't know that Greek and Roman gods/ goddesses aren't the same, just commonly associated with each other. Okay, there are some that the Romans borrowed (I think Apollo might be one, getting fuzzy on my origins...), but most Roman gods already were well established before their major contact with the Greek world (although the Etruscans did adopt many Greek myths that they probably gave to the Romans, like Herakles/Hercules). Fun fact for the day. Yay!

My point was that she's not the priestess of Zeus. Jupiter was even more closely identified with the sky than Zeus comes to be in Greek mythology where he takes on the whole "king of the gods" aspect.

I'm done now. Except, I need to say that "Iuppiter" is spelled correctly.
