The Judgment of Paris Picture

Here we have the judgment of Paris, one of the most famous myths from Greek mythology! For those who aren't aware, the goddess of Discord, Eris, was not invited to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis. In her anger, she threw a golden apple into the midst of the goddesses labeled "For the Fairest." Hera, Athena and Aphrodite each thought that she should receive the apple. Zeus abstains from deciding who is the fairest and instead has Hermes bring the three goddesses to Paris, the shepherd-prince of Troy. Athena offers to give him wisdom and victory in war, Hera offers to make him king over Europe and Asia, but Aphrodite promises him the love of the most beautiful woman in the world, and that is what he chooses. That woman is Helen, wife of Menelaus, and when Paris brings her back to Troy, Menelaus and all the kings of Greece set sail for Troy. Thus begins the Trojan war!

I don't think the scan looks as good as the picture in my sketchbook, but that's okay. For the Greek boat I used a picture from the D'Aulaire's book of Greek mythology as a reference. I also used a reference for parts of Athena's outfit. The materials used were pencils, a micron pen (02), and colored pencils.
