Persephone Picture

Hah, that's me... I wore that dress in Wanhojen tanssit, which is pretty same as the prom in USA. However, probably some of you are wondering, who the heck is Persephone, so let me explain...

In Greek mythology Persephone (also known as Proserpine/-a and Kore) was a daughter of Demeter and Zeus, and the Queen of the Underworld (hence the consort of Hades).

There is a myth, how Hades fell in love with Persephone and abducted her to the Underworld so that she would become his wife. Demeter searched for her daughter so desperately that she forbad plants to grow. When Persephone was found, Hades had already tricked her to eat six pomegranate seeds. This meant that Persephone had to stay six months in the Underworld and during this time Demeter wept causing all plants to die (symbolizing fall and winter). Another six months (spring and summer) Persephone was allowed to be with her mother and then the Earth flourished again.

I'm going to make my diploma work in art school inspired of this myth: it will be a painted and drawn portrait of Persephone and Hades. And my Persephone will have a same pose as I have in the photo.
