Divine Iris Picture

The deity named Iris was the Greek goddess of the rainbow and the messenger of the gods. She was also the handmaiden and personal messenger of Hera, the queen of the gods. She was made of sea and sky, borne of a god of the ocean and a cloud-nymph. And unlike many of her fellow immortals, Iris was never featured in her own myths; she was only mentioned in passing in stories that centered on others. But she was still a goddess worthy of respect and devotion, and it is fitting that one of the most beautiful flower species be named in her honor.
