Ancient messages Picture

I wanted to do a painting of petroglyphs, so I actually have painted this on a stone plate (which would “imitate” a cliff). Rugged edges are made by small drilling machine (thanks for my dad!).
The figures are painted after real petroglyphs that ancient Karelian people have made. There are swans, elks and crane with sun. Waterbirds - and especially swans - were like holy animals to Karelians, so they made lots of petroglyphs of them. The bird in the water is black-throated diver, and very often it’s associated with wildernesses of Finland. It was also thought that shaman travelled to the underworld in the form of this waterbird.
