Ammut Picture

Who is Ammut?
Well Ammut is an odd looking critter straight from Egyptian Mythology. She is often seem sitting or standing next to the scales used by Anubis, the god of the underworld, to weigh the dead's heart against the feather worn by Maat, the goddess of truth and justice. If you look closely at these old scrolls you can see the look of expectation on her scaley snout, thats because if the heart was 'weighed' down with bad deeds then Ammut or 'the Gobbler would eat it all up and the dead person would become a bad spirit.
Ammut has the head of a Crocodile, the forelegs of a lion and the back and hind legs of a hippo. All three animals were considered the keepers of the dead.
