Spring - The Return Picture

Demeter and Persephone

Greek mythology tells of a story of a mother reuniting with her daughter every year after 3 months of being separated from her. For these 3 months, Demeter, the goddess of earth and harvest, is filled with sorrow as her daughter, Persephone, is cursed to return to her Hades, the god of the Underworld. We come to know this time of year as winter. After the months of separation, Persephone comes back to her mother. Spring then occurs as a reflection of the goddess's happiness.
