Orpheus and Eurydice Picture

In short, Eurydice was the wife of Orpheus, son of Apollo. She died of snakebite, and Orpheus decended into Hades with his lyre to beg for her return. His music was so beautiful that it put the Gods of the Underworld to sleep and persuaded Hades' Queen, Persephone, to beg her husband for Eurydice's release. Hades agreed, on the condition that Orpheus not look at his wife until they had left the Underworld. When they were nearly out, Eurydice stumbled. Orpheus turned to catch her, and she was snatched back into the Underworld.

Oil on canvas, June 2005. It's a bit taller than 2' I think, but I don't have it close by to check.
