Shima in Tengu Yamabushi Outfit Picture

A Tengu is a creature in Japanese mythology which is a Yakai (godly goblin) which has the face of a bird, talons of a bird and wings of a bird.
In traditional myth, the Tengu are bushido warriors who lived with the Yamabushi Monks. They still had wings but had red human faces with exagerated long noses. This is a lot like a Samurai mask, warriors who also live by the code of bushido. The Tengu probably look like their modern bird form but wore Yamabushi outfits and masks with exagerated noses.
