Ammut, the Devourer of Souls.
An ancient Egyptian myth tells of this monster of the afterlife, which takes the form of a creature part crocodile, part hippopotamus, part lion.

In the Halls of Judgement the deceased must have their hearts weighed by Anubis, Lord of the Afterlife.
If the scales which weigh the heart and the feather of Truth tip, proving the deceased to be unworthy, Ammut devours the heart and the soul is thus destroyed, leaving eternal death for the sinner.
