"I have come with my mustard seed
--I cannot accept that she will be taken from me."

Life plays cruel tricks on you; several minutes after hearing this song for the first time, I got a phone call telling me a close friend had died.

In a Buddhist myth, a grieving mother is told by Buddha that he will ressurect her son if she can bring him a handful of mustard seed from a family that has never experienced death. When the mother finds this impossible, she realises that she is not alone in her pain and must not be selfish. "The Beekeeper" subverts this myth by having its heroine at the start arrive before Death, mustard seed in hand, having gone to impossible lengths to obtain it, completely unwilling to passively accept the loss of a loved one.
