Mictlantecuhtli - Guillermo de la Guarda Picture

When I'm feeling symbolic (and bored~~~~) I represent my characters as gods or goddesses.

This, here, is Mictlantecuhtli (but it was really just my excuse to draw Guillermo in Aztec clothing~~~). Mictlantecuhtli is the Aztec god of the underworld (ruler of Mictlán) who is said to have swallowed the stars each passing day, and - in the creation myth - allowed Quetzalcoatl to enter Mictlan so that he could collect bones of previous living souls in order to create new life. He's usually depicted with his mouth open and apparently he has a necklace made of eyeballs...but let's face it, I forgot about them~

Interestingly enough, in Aztec culture, human bones represent fertility and good health, opposite to what Western culture identifies them with.

*sigh*. It's no wonder I love Mexico's history~

Anyhow, Guillermo has some Aztec blood in him, so, yes, it's pretty relevant.
