Creation .:Izanagi:. Picture

So we have a HUGE project for mythology. We have to research one of the many World mythologies, and me and my partner chose Japanese. Japanese myths are large and branch out: so we chose a more prominent mythology of Japan.

Known as Shinto Mythology. In Shinto mythology, the First god(created from a plant that rose from the muddy sea below heaven) created Izanagi, the Forefather of the Gods, and his sister(also his wife!) Izanami. Their names translate to "He/she who invites" (there are other translations that I have seen, but that is most common)
The First god told Izanagi, and Izanami, to create the rest of the world. So, standing on the bridge between heaven and earth(which was named Ama-No-Ukihashi, "The floating bridge of the heavens"), Izanagi plunged his jeweled spear into the waters below. When he pulled it free, the water dripped from the spear, and collected below. Slowly, it formed the first island of the Japanese archipelago. Then Izanagi and his wife went down to the island, and created the rest of Japan from there.

That is about half of the creation story, if you look for how life and death came to be. I may illustrate more Shinto myths later, if my brain and art muse can handle it.
As you can guess, this is not the common representation of Izanagi. However, I wanted to have fun with it, so I drew Izanagi from Persona 4. I suck at backgrounds, but I tried my best. Regardless, I know my teacher will be very impressed.

BIG thanks to *00ShadowDragon00 for saving me time by inking the sketch for me! <3
