Daedalus and Icarus Picture

Based on the story of Daedalus and Icarus. For those who don't know the story, Daedalus was exiled to the island of Crete, and wanted to go back home. The only problem was, the king of Crete had all the sea routes blocked so that Daedalus couldn't get off. So Daedalus decided to fly off. He made two sets of wings, one for him and one for his son Icarus, and got the two of them ready to set off. Before they left, Daedalus told Icarus to stay on the middle path, in between the constelations Orion and Bootes. He also told him not to go too close to the water, or it would weigh down the wings, or too close to the sun, or it would melt the wax holding the wings together. Unfortunately, Icarus did not listen to his father, and flew higher and higher. Needless to say, the sun melted the wax and Icarus fell into the ocean where he drowned.

This drawing is of the two flying, at about the point where Icarus starts to stray away from his dad. Icarus in in front. I based his haistyle off of Cooro from +Anima. You can see Daedalus in the background, just sort of flying along. The constelation to the left is Orion, and the constelation to the right is Bootes. The sky gets darker in the direction they are flying to foreshadow the misfortune to come. I tried to do the same with the ocean, having it get stormier in the direction they are flying, but as you can see I sort of failed with that.

I drew this with pencil, and then colored it in on Photoshop.
I plan to revisit this drawing eventually, maybe improve the ocean and add some sunlight in. But overall, I'm actually pretty happy with how this turned out.
