Iroquois mythology. In some versions of the iroquois creation story, the Great Turtle sends a small turtle into the sky to create day and night. The small turtle gathered lightening bolts for the clouds, and used them to create the sun and the moon. Then, the Great Turtle asked the burrowing animals like foxes and rabbits to dig holes in the four corners of the sky, for the sun and moon to travel through and set through each day - creating day and night.
