(continued from Orihime)
"Kuchiki-san! You're here too!"
"Orihime, didn't expect to see you here," Rukia said putting away her sword. "Who's this that you're with?"
"Oh this is Yuri, he's been keeping me company all this time. He's also a really good cook."
"Yuri, huh?" Rukia looked at the long haired swordsman.
"You two know each other?"
"That's right!" Orihime exclaimed all bubbly, "Kuchiki-san's a good friend of mine and Kurosaki-kun. She's the reason Kurosaki-kun first became a shinigami."
"There's a story in here somewhere, but I'm not sure I want to hear it."
"Even if you wanted to, I wouldn't tell you. It's not your business. Thank you for looking after Orihime, Yuri, but I can keep an eye on her from here."
"So, what, you're just gonna relieve me of my 'burden' and go off with your friend here?"
"But Lowell-kun's really strong, Kuchiki-san we shouldn't just push him away."
"I'm not exactly comfortable around strangers or this situation. The sooner we can get out of this stupid place the better."
"And, what? I'm just left to fend for myself. Unless you can cook you two would starve without me."
"I can cook! I mean..." Rukia pushed her fingers together. "Well I've never tried before," she vigorously looked at Yuri, "but how hard can it be?"
Yuri sighed and shook his head for a little bit. "Obviously you haven't ever partaken in the lovely cuisine of chef Orihime." (Even Flynn's cooking was better than hers). "I don't exactly want to, but I'm not going to let you two die of starvation."
"I'm a shinigami I don't need to eat very much."
"Oh, but Kuchiki-san you just have to have some of Lowell-kun's cooking! It's delicious!"
Rukia sighed in defeat. "Fine, he can come along." She walked up to Yuri. "But let's get one thing straight here. I don't trust you. Your presence is naught but a convenience so don't expect me to watch your back."
"You know you're starting to remind me of a certain mage," he ruffled Rukia's hair roughly. "She was just about your stature and maturity too."
Rukia growled only to attempt to punch Yuri, but he sidestepped and, on reflex, open-palm thrust her in the chest. Rukia staggered back. "That reflex, you've had military training?"
"I used to be a knight. The rest I taught myself."
"A knight, you mean like one of those figures in shining armor that rescue princesses from castles?"
Yuri sighed. "Well I did rescue a princess from a castle once, but that was after I quit and she certainly didn't match your typical storybook description at all."
Rukia stared at Yuri for a little while longer. "Perhaps I misjudged you too soon. I'll still have my eye on you, Yuri, but you certainly aren't what I expected at first glance."
"I could say the same about you, but I won't." Yuri looked around. "We've spent enough time just dawdling. Before those things come back what's say we get a move on." Yuri pulled out a scrunched up piece of paper out of his pocket.
"What's that?" Rukia asked.
"I've been doing my best to draw a map of this place, but it's all sand. However, I at least do know which direction we're headed in."
"Shall we go south then?"
Yuri looked at his map without even bothering to need to check the sun. "That way, he pointed, pointing left. However, Orihime came from that direction and I'm guessing you came west. We're better off heading North northeast."
"Wow, that's impressive."
"Aw shucks, you're gonna make me blush," Yuri said with a hint of sarcasm.
(Maybe this won't be so bad after all) Rukia thought to herself (He's easier to get along with than Ichigo at any rate).
