Bastet Cat Goddess Picture

"Bastet"©TaraFly, 2016.
An acrylic painting on a masonite panel, measuring 11"x14".

The Egyptian cat goddess was originally a sun goddess (daughter of Ra) until the Greeks conquered parts of Egypt and merged their own pantheon with the Egyptians'. The Greeks felt Bastet resembled Artemis, a moon goddess, and so Bast became associated with the moon. They probably were impressed by cats' eyes which "glow" in the dark like tiny moons. Haha

I created this painting for the Rabbit Hole Artist Collective's July auction, themed "Ancient Worlds". It runs July 24th - 30th, 2016 on the Rabbit Hole Collective's Facebook page.
