entrance to hades Picture

Geographically, the Hades is surrounded by rivers: The Acheron (river of woe), The Cocytus (river of lamentation), The Phlegethon (river of fire), The Styx (river of unbreakable oath by which the gods swear), and The Lethe (river of forgetfulness).
There are many entrances to the underworld. Once across the rivers an adamantine gate, guarded by Cerberus, forms one of the entrances to the kingdom.
Hercules found an entrance near Sparta at cape Taenaron in Laconia.
There are many other entrances, like all chasms, or bottomless lakes.
