Hermaphroditus Picture

This piece features my lovely mannequin named Tetra, hopefully you'll utilize fullview (click on image) so you can see the entire face and body, it's a bit subtle in the thumbnail. I used to be really into doing space scene art and playing with planets, and galaxies and the like. So this is kind of my return to that element while still trying to find connections my goal of exploring projection of oneself and identity beyond just water and mirrors. As some of you may know I have been reading up greek mythology a lot as of recent. Aphrodite is goddess of love, beauty, and sexuality. According to Hesiod's Theogony she was born when Chronus cut off Uranus' genitals threw them into the sea and from the sea rose Aphrodite. Which has lead me to read about her child Hermaphroditus. The deity of bisexuality (and others things). When I was reading more about Ovid's Metamorphoses I also learned that it is likely he fabricated a few of the tales beyond what was apparently already established. So, this is my little fabrication of my image of Hermaphroditus who was raped by the water nymph Salmacis which caused the child's change from a handsome boy to an androgynous being.
