Ophelia illustration I did in high school as part of the two year IB Visual Arts program. My major themes were storytelling and the roles of female and maternal characters within world mythologies and stories. Coincidentally we read Hamlet in English. Also I was listening to Florence + the Machine's Ceremonials album like an addict.

I was exploring the role of water in the conquest or death of maternal archetypes and then in college we were reading a book of Hindu mythology translated by Wendy Doniger o' Flaherty who sums up the concept with the following words: "The water is thus both the birth-place and the hiding place of the earth [. . .] ."
