Big Iron Picture

This is another one of the industrial artifacts that are at Station Square in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a Bessemer Converter from one of the many steel
mills that once dotted the Monogahela River Valley east of Pittsburgh. Places like Hazelwood, Homestead, Clairton and Bradock were synonymous with the power of steel here in Pittsburgh. Steel had it's own mythology, it heroes and it's villains, it winners and it's losers. The little Scottish bastard Andrew
Carnegie and his union busting henchman Henry Frick became mega rich on the blood and the backs of emigrant workers. Now just a rusting hulk that
has a smoke machine in it for the tourists, the Bessemer converter once breathed fire and spit molten steel.
