I simply love all those old stories, they have a strange quality about them that could almost have happened (in a strange way). Probably why people used to actually believe in them.

Anyway, this is Fenris (or Fenrir) one of the children of Loki, the god of being a right pain in the arse. It was prophesied that Fenris would be the cause of terrible strife throughout the world so the gods sought to imprison him. The giant wolf creature wanted to show off his strength and allowed himself to be chained. He broke through every bond imaginable, laughing at their efforts. They worked in vain until the dwarfs made a ribbon made of the footstep of a cat, the roots of a mountain, a woman's beard, the breath of fishes, the sinews of a bear, and a bird's spittle. At hearing this Fenris asked for one of the gods to put their hand into his mouth. Tyr, the god of war took up the challenge, and when Fenris realised he was caught, bit off his hand.

Although, for some strange reason, at Ragnarok the twilight of the gods he will break free and eat Odin.

I dunno why he's in a cave of ice though, just seemed a suitable place to put him.
That has to be the longest description I've ever written
