Simurgh Picture

The simurgh is a mythical animal from ancient Persia. It is a benevolent creature, female, enormous in size, extremely long-lived, and is described as "the wisest of all birds."

Originally, the simurgh was depicted as having a dog's head and lion's claws, as well as magnificent plumage. But as the ancient Persians came into contact with the Chinese through trade, they came to identify the Chinese mythical phoenix bird with the simurgh. Thus, later depictions portray the simurgh as more fully avian, and is essentially the same as the phoenix, even becoming reborn in fire.

I don't know how to classify this drawing, as traditional or digital art - I drew the outline by hand on paper and did the rest digitally.
