In Greek mythology, a harpy was one of the winged spirits best known for constantly stealing all food. The literal meaning of the word seems to be "that which snatches."

Well, in my own canon, my harpies are depicted as beautiful creatures and friendly characters, in contrast to their usual portraying. All harpies are female. The harpy species are also known as Jungfrauenadler or "virgin eagle" because most of the harpies rarely mate because stallions usually find them revolting and consider it a taboo.

The harpies have two talons where front hooves would be usually and have large wings, larger than what a usual pegasus would have. Harpies also have short tails and usually beautiful styles of hair. They have pointed teeth for eating meat as well. They are omnivores. They eat both plants and animals. They do not, however, eat ponies, seeing them as kin of sorts.

Most harpies also have an obsession for taking things. Not so much as stealing or pirating, but taking things for personal curiosity. Things such as mirrors, toys, tools, or other material things are usual targets for them to take and look at for their personal curiosity. They also usually take foodstuffs from wanders or other travelers.

My harpies are also kind-hearted and want to help ponies find their way home if they are lost. They also will go out of their way to find food for ponies if they are hungry. They like to see stallions and find them interesting because of mating reasons, seeing as most are virgins and they cannot find mates easily. However, they don't push themselves onto males and usually like for males to come to them. They are not usually aggressive, but can be if attacked. They usually live in forest areas and come out at dusk, twilight, dawn, or night times. Rarely they come out in mid-day and evening. Thus why their pupil is so large.
