WSW: Silvius Tane App Picture

For the West Sea Weyr

Name: Silvius Tane
Age and Gender: 22 and Male
Occupation: Dragonrider
Rank: Candidate
Personality: A gentle soul, he dislikes conflict and fighting. He has a deep love of plantlife and minerals. His favored gems are sapphires, in any color*.

Bronze Fire Lizard: Tuncay [no link yet]
A hotheaded creature, Tuncay has no sense of delicacy in his mannerisms. He'll even peck at Silvius if he thinks the man-boy is delayed in feeding him his dinner. Silvius and Tuncay are a mismatched pair.

Silvius is born into the year of a Wood Dragon in the Chinese Horoscope, and is as such, talkative and creative. A bit pushy as are all dragons, but not as badly as any other dragon. Has a strange connection to forests.

Silvius is also a Virgo, born with the inborn need to do the right thing. As Virgo is also an Earth alligned star-sign, it seems to deepen his connection with forests.

Silvius can be found in places close to living plants, and tends to his own garden as a hobby. He allows Tuncay to assist him, so long as his feisty firelizard behaves.

Tuncay has been with Silvius for a long time, ever since he was defeated first to mate with a Golden Firelizard. Injured by flying inadvertently into a boulder, he was rescued from his plight by Silvius.

Awed by a human doing such a self-sacrificing thing, and feeling a connection with the boy, he bonded with Silvius. Despite their differences in personality, they work well together when they have to.

Behind the Names:

Silvius Tane;
Silvius: derived from Latin silva "wood, forest". This was the family name of several of the legendary kings of Alba Longa. It is also the name of an early saint martyred in Alexandria.
Tane: Means "man" in Maori. In Maori and other Polynesian mythology Tane was the god of forests and light. He created the tui bird and, by some accounts, man.
Tuncay: Means "bronze moon" in Turkish.

*Sapphires can come in any color of the rainbow, and in fact, rubies and sapphires are the same gem. The only difference is that rubies are red and sapphires are any other color but are most commonly blue.
