Icarus Picture

After King Minos exiled Icarus and his father, Daedalus, because of the whole Labyrinth fiasco, the pair attempted to escape their prison on Crete. Daedalus, a master craftsman, put his genius to use and glued wings made of birds' feathers and wax to himself and his son, warning Icarus not to fly too close to the sun in their attempted escape. But the joy of flight overcame Icarus, who disregarded his father's warning and flew higher and higher, closer and closer to the sun. Before long the heat from the sun had melted the wax on his arms, and caught fire to his feathery wings. Icarus continued to flap his bare arms fruitlessly, but was brought down from the heavens and into the sea, where he drowned.
