Lucretia Picture

Lucretia was the wife of Tarquinius Collatinus and represented the ideal of Roman womanhood. When Sextus, youngest son of the Etruscan king Tarquinius Superbus, raped her at dagger point she made her father and husband promise to avenge her honour before she stabbed herself to death.
