PERSEUS - 5. Serifos Island Picture

Serifos Island

Perseus grew up in this island, turning into a strong young man able to take care of his mother. His mother’s charms however, did not stay unnoticed. The local ruler, king Polydectes was enthralled. Soon, he invited Perseus to a royal feast, asking him as was the custom of Serifos at the time, to gift the king a horse as a token of service. Perseus however, as a fisherman’s son could not live up to tradition. The young man however, did not falter. On the contrary, he boldly claimed that instead of a horse, he would come back with Medusa’s head, a mythical monster that lived in a far away island.
