Myth Kids: Ken Picture

I am currently taking classes at the Animation Academy in Burbank, CA. This is part of what I developed during my first session there. This style is a new direction for my art, something that I have been curious about exploring for a while now.

Ken is one of three kid characters I designed for an idea I had where young mythical monsters would travel around, meeting other young monsters from various mythologies around the world. The initial group, Megan Russ and Ken, are all based on Greek mythos.

Ken is a baby kraken. I based his design off of Harryhausen's kraken from Clash of the Titans, instead of the more squid-like interpretation from the original mythos. Mostly because I thought it would be simpler to design and animate. Ken is definitely the troublemaker of the group, always scheming. Despite feeling slightly awkward on land because of his large feet he is confident to the point of cockyness, troublesome, but also charming.

On the top left I have a rotation for 3D modeling (just 3 poses instead of the 5 required for traditional animation) and the other images are attitude/expression poses.
