Kerberos, Hound of Hell Picture

Kerberos, or Cerberus, is a type of Hell-Hound. He is the son of Echidna and Typhon, a three headed dog, sometimes with a mane of snakes or a snakes tail. His siblings include the Chimera, the Sphinx and the Hydra. He guards the Gates into the Underworld,or Hades, or as it was known in the Middle Ages, Hell. In the Labours of Hercules, the titular hero had to bring the savage monster to the surface world. In the legend of Orpheus, to rescue Eurydice from the grip of Hades, the hero had to pass by Cerberus, who was put to sleep by Orpheus' singing.
You might find a contemporary of Cerberus in Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, in Hagrid's monster guardian, Fluffy, and an incarnation of him, more rottweiler in form, in the Percy Jackson series.
