Crossoverlord The Lost Page Picture

This scrap from Crossoverlord is kind of a sore spot for me.

You might remember the "Reali-tease" from The Crossoverlord. What you probably don't know is that the original concept was going to be arbitrated by none other than Ringo. The purpose was to give the webcomic multiverse a sense of cohesion without resorting to "Earth 1" and "Earth 2" type nonsense. Instead, you have worlds named after Demeter and Talos! Cool! Exciting!

So my suggestion was to use the names of Greek and Roman deities. There are so many to choose from, and we can easily theme them to each of the webcomic worlds. I was the one who gave the reality names of Hercules, Prometheus, and Apollo to the worlds of Dasien, Mindmistress, and Lightbringer.

My original pitch was that Ringo would deliver this idea, because he's already a character filled with quirks. Why not give him a passion for Earth religions and mythologies, right? Sounded like fun. I was ready to start drawing. In fact, I did. The above drawing roughly approximates my original draft.

Unfortunately, this scene got shot down. In retrospect, I wish I would have fought for it. I really should have insisted that this be put in the story. Not only was it a dynamic and memorable way to introduce the multiverse concept to the Crossoverlord readers, but it was done in a way that would have given it cohesion with the story itself.

Not only that, but I think that this version gives a bit more insight into Ringo's reasoning behind the heroes he selected and it reveals that maybe Dasien was a second choice behind the original powerhouse, which would have been Green Avenger.

To this day, I remain unhappy that this didn't get used. It got vetoed for reasons that I'll never understand.
