Ulysses Picture

A very early concept sketch of the third principle character from the Taralyn project, Ulysses. A literal iron horse, this steam-powered military mount has no idea whom he serves nor what his current directives are.

Initially this design was to be a steam-powered battering ram that appeared as a giant metal mountain goat, but I ran into some structural issues when doing the visual design as it looked far too much like the Warcraft ram mounts. Even so, this design is very preliminary, and there's a very good chance that future revisions may look a bit more like armored barding and less trainlike.

In Norse mythology, Sleipnir was Odin's eight-legged horse from which this design was partially inspired, though it owes more to the late-1800s steam engine designs that used six drivewheels as opposed to four.
