Atla, daughter of Ran Picture

Atla is a water goddess and daughter of Ran( the goddess of the storms) and Aegir ( the god of the sea in norse mythology). They had nine daughters("Billow Maidens" ) who are the personification of the waves. Atla is one of them.

According to Snorri (Edda) she was a “troll-wife”, meaning that she was the wife of a giant (maybe Snorri meant the same giantess as the one of the Hyndluljóð).
